LEGO-Based Therapy Groups

Helping tamariki connect, communicate, and grow through something they love.

Our LEGO-Based Therapy Groups are a fun, structured, evidence-informed way to support children with their social skill development — without pressure, fear, or forced interaction. Through shared LEGO play, children practice important life skills in a way that feels safe, motivating, and child-centred.

Building Social Skills Through Play

What is LEGO-Based Therapy?

LEGO-Based Therapy is an evidence-based programme designed to facilitate social skill development in a fun and playful way.

Children work together to build LEGO models in small groups, with each child taking on a specific role. This structure naturally supports communication, collaboration, and shared problem-solving — all while children are focused on something enjoyable and meaningful to them.

  • Our LEGO-Based Therapy Groups are designed for:

    • Groups of 2–3 children

    • Tamariki experiencing challenges with their social skill development

    • Children who enjoy building or structured play

The groups are facilitated by our Occupational Therapist, Bo O’Sullivan, who has completed formal LEGO-Based Therapy facilitator training.

A diagnosis is not required. We focus on each child’s strengths, interests, and support needs.

  • Groups can be held in a range of settings:

    • In our clinic

    • At schools

    • In the community

LEGO is wonderfully transportable, and Bo is happy to go where the need is, supporting children in environments where they feel most comfortable.

  • Initially, Bo will be running short LEGO-Based Therapy groups:

    • Weekly sessions

    • 6-week blocks

    • Small groups of 2–3 children

    • Run at an exclusive introductory price of: XXXX

Each session follows a clear and predictable structure, helping children feel safe and supported while practising skills such as communication, cooperation, and emotional regulation.

  • Every child is maurea, a unique treasure, and not every group suits every child. We always recommend an initial consult first to make sure this group feels like the right fit for your whānau.

Why LEGO?

While it may look like play, LEGO-Based Therapy supports a wide range of developmental skills, including:

  • Social interaction skills such as turn-taking, sharing, and teamwork

  • Communication and listening skills

  • Problem-solving and flexible thinking

  • Attention and focus

  • Fine motor skills

  • Emotional regulation and resilience

Because the learning happens through play, children often feel more relaxed, confident, and willing to engage.
