Sensory Support for Children

At Nurture Paediatrics, we understand that every child experiences the world in their own unique way. For some children, the way they process sensory information — sounds, textures, lights, movement, and more — can be overwhelming or underwhelming, affecting their ability to learn, play, and connect with others.

Our paediatric occupational therapist specialises in sensory integration and regulation, offering personalised, compassionate support to help your child navigate their sensory world with confidence.

    What is Sensory Processing?

Sensory processing refers to how the nervous system receives messages from the senses and turns them into appropriate responses. When this process is disrupted, children might be:

Highly sensitive to sound, touch, or movement

Constantly seeking movement or crashing into things

Easily distracted or overwhelmed in busy environments

Avoiding certain textures, clothing, or messy play

Struggling with daily activities like eating, sleeping, dressing, or going to school

Every child is different, and sensory differences aren’t always easy to recognise — but they can have a big impact on your child’s daily life and emotional wellbeing.

    How Occupational Therapy Can Help

Through play-based, child-led therapy sessions, we work to support:

Sensory Regulation – Helping your child feel calm, alert, and in control
Body Awareness & Coordination – Building core strength, balance, and movement confidence
Daily Functioning – Improving participation in self-care, mealtimes, classroom activities, and more
Confidence & Connection – Empowering your child to enjoy life with less stress and more joy

We tailor every session to your child’s specific needs, preferences, and strengths, while working closely with families, educators, and health professionals to support consistent, effective strategies at home and school.

Is Sensory support right for my child?

If your child experiences big reactions to small things, avoids or craves sensory input, or struggles with emotional regulation or focus, sensory support through occupational therapy may be beneficial. You don’t need a diagnosis to seek help — we’re here to support children of all ages and abilities to reach their potential.

    Let’s Work Together

We believe that every child deserves to feel safe, capable, and connected in their world. Whether your child is facing specific sensory challenges or you’re just unsure how to best support them, our team is here to help.
