FAQs

  • You do not need a referral from a GP (General Practitioner) to seek treatment. You can directly access a physiotherapist or occupational therapist without a referral. Your physiotherapist can also assist you with lodging the ACC claim if eligible, arrange x-ray’s or ultrasound referrals and refer to specialists or surgeons.

  • In New Zealand, ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) part covers physiotherapy treatment for injuries resulting from accidents, including children. If your child is injured due to an accident, their physiotherapy expenses may be eligible for ACC coverage. To ascertain eligibility and navigate the claims process, please discuss this directly with your physiotherapist. Note that ACC coverage generally applies to accident-related injuries and may not extend to pre-existing or non-accident-related conditions. Please be aware that a part-charge does apply for physiotherapy treatment costs.

  • It is always best to check with your specific insurer and policy. Many insurers do support rehabilitation. If your Southern Cross health insurance policy includes Physiotherapy coverage, we can process a claim for you during your appointment. This will help determine the amount Southern Cross covers for your treatment costs, and we will receive payment directly from them. • A standard initial evaluation for new patients or injuries typically spans from 45 to 60 minutes. Follow-up appointments vary in duration, ranging from 20 to 45 minutes, depending on the complexity of the injury or concern. At Nurture, we recognise the importance of dedicating adequate time when working with children and adolescents. Our goal is to empower every client and their family to share their unique experiences, receive a personalised approach, and gain a deep understanding of the healthcare they’re receiving.

  • A paediatric physiotherapist is an expert in treating children and adolescents (0-18 years) by addressing developmental milestones, age-specific conditions, and psychological aspects. We use tailored techniques, fun play-based therapy, and family involvement to promote proper growth and movement patterns. Paediatric physiotherapists focus on building trust with their young patients, making their approach distinct from that of adult physiotherapists.

  • Paediatric occupational therapy supports children's development, helping them gain the skills needed for play, learning and daily living activities. Our Occupational Therapists offer targeted strategies and intervention to help children and their whānau to overcome and manage any barriers to participation in daily life.

  • For a physiotherapy appointment, wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows access to the affected area. Shorts or sweatpants are ideal for lower-body issues, while sleeveless tops or singlets are required for upper-body concerns.

Choose supportive footwear. If your physiotherapist recommends specific items, bring them along. Prioritise comfort and ease of movement for effective assessments and treatments.

  • The frequency of sessions depends on your unique requirements and the specific nature of your condition. Your physiotherapist or occupational therapist will collaborate with you during the initial assessment to formulate a treatment plan, which will be modified as necessary to suit your evolving healthcare journey. This flexible approach ensures that your care remains tailored to your individual needs and allows for adjustments as you progress toward improved health and well-being.

  • If you’re dissatisfied with your treatment, please discuss it with your therapist for prompt resolution. If your concerns persist or you want to make a formal complaint, you can contact the Health and Disabilities Commissioner’s Office at 0800 112233. For general feedback, comments, or compliments, feel free to reach out to us via phone or email. Your input is important to us.

  • Yes, most of the time. With clear goals and planning for therapy sessions, requests can be made for individualised funding. We can provide a quote along with a tailored therapy plan.

  • Yes, our occupational therapy and physiotherapy is offered both in clinic and at home. We recognise that young people are often more comfortable in a familiar environment, so we are flexible with where we provide our services to ensure that your child's best outcomes are achieved. We are happy to visit your child at their school or Early Childhood Education Centre if indicated. Please note that appointments outside of the clinic may incur a travel cost.
